The Kissan Morcha and The Noble Harminder Singh
The Kissan Morcha (farmer’s protest) in Delhi is very near and dear to our hearts, and the courage and dedication of those protesting is unmatched. Our SAF India team decided to take action and provide aid to those at the protest who needed it. With the help of our volunteers and donors, we were able to hand out blankets, food, water, and provide a 150 ft. sleeping shelter for those at the protest. We also provided water coolers, warm coffee, soap, socks, and warm clothing in the cold winter months. We are extremely thankful for the help of our numerous volunteers and committed employees who spent their days serving and providing aid to the brave protestors.
Through our hands-on work at the protest, our team had the opportunity to hear various honorable stories of those protesting. The dedication and pure heart in each and every person present at the Kissan Morcha is not to be underestimated. Through communication between our team and the protestors, we were able to connect on a deeper level and provide specific aid to those with particular needs. This included medical aid for those who were injured, and helping their families access food and water back at home. One particular story that we would like to share is that of the noble Harminder Singh.
In December of 2020, Harminder Singh was returning home after fighting for farmer’s rights at the Kissan Morcha throughout the 0°C winter temperatures. Unfortunately, as he was returning home to his family, Harminder Singh got into an accident and tragically passed away. His family and two children were left alone after this misfortune, and his wife was not able to stay with their children as the pain of losing her husband was too difficult to bear.
Our SAF team decided to step in and lend a helping hand. We were able to bring both of Harminder Singh’s children into our Educate a Child sponsorship program. This will ensure that they receive a quality education and an opportunity to truly thrive regardless of their misfortune. Through our sponsorship program, these children will also receive medical coverage for their immediate family and all necessary school supplies. We are positive these two children will carry on their father’s legacy of braveness, dedication, and heart. Our team was also able to aid the family in Harminder Singh’s final rites ceremony. Our hearts are heavy for all of the brave lives lost during the Kissan Morcha, and we believe helping the families left behind is vital. We sincerely thank all of our donors, volunteers, and sponsors for supporting SAF and allowing us to provide this crucial aid where it is needed most. We would not be able to do any of this without your support.
